Beautiful period building with stylish rooms, run by a very friendly, very different and intelligent man who was there to deal with our every wish. Possibly the most interesting person we have met yet, if you are looking for a place where you can sit and brouse through the piles of art and photography books whilst munching on a locally sourced organic sausage at breakfast time, then this is the place.

Likes:
The breakfast room, where everyone has to sit at the one table and you end up making lots of new friends, and all the photography pieces hung on the walls.

Dislikes:
The only thing I can think of for this to be an honest review is that the room didnt have enough tea-bags... but I drink a lot of tea so this should not be a problem for everyone else!

just what we were looking for a quiet, relaxing, very calm atmosphere.

Likes:
The room had a relaxed feel, no technology eg, TV, computers allowing a chance to de-stress, read, listen to music.

Dislikes:
Nothing, very pleased .

Response from The Cloudesley:
The beds here are luxury pocket spring/ orthopaedic - the most frequently asked question is 'where did you buy your beds?'. Other than that, another reason why guests sleep so well might possibly be the lack of television in the rooms. Initially, this may have put some off but it now seems to work quite well, with people choosing to come here for that very reason. I should add, however, that there is WiFi throughout the building

We came down for one night. We were very pleased with our choice. The host, Shahria , couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The organic breakfast is to die for. Shahria is also an amazing reflexologist and photographer..and has some great stories to share. We will be back.

Likes:
The rooms, the breakfast..the host.

Dislikes:
The back garden is still unfinished...It'll be the icing on the cake when it's landscaped. The breakfast courtyard however was lovely.

A lot of thought has gone into the hotel and it is beautiful. From outside you could never imagine what was behind the front door. The owner could not do enough for us, a true gentleman.

We stayed 2 nights at this guest house which we thought was wonderful. The owner is charming and very hospitable. The room was beautifully furnished, simply and tasteful. The bed was so comfortable I would have happily spent the day in it. There were lovely books in all the rooms and interesting photographs and pictures throughout the house. Breakfast is served in a room looking onto the courtyard which has a small array of beautiful sthrubs including a fig tree which provided us with our appetizer which was delicious. The garden, when it is finished, promises to be an equally delightful space. We were able to walk into Hastings to dinner to a restaurant recommended by the owner - it too was very good. Overall a very calm and peaceful stay ( partly due to the absence of television noise from neighbouring rooms.)

From the moment we arrived The Cloudesley lived up to its previous reviews. We immediately felt extremely welcome and were shown to the most beautiful room. We both took advantage of the holistic massage offered on site and felt so much better for it. The owner provides excellent recommendations of locations to dine and to visit. Both mornings we were treated to breakfast in our room with a superb cooked breakfast rounded off with fresh fruit from the garden. This is truly an unique place to stay we will certainly be visiting again.

We went for a suprise weekend for my partners birthday and enjoyed every minute. The rooms are beautifully decorated to a high standard. The hotel is ideally situated between Rye and Battle, both of which hold a lot of history and are well worth a visit. The breakfast was extremely well cooked and much tastier than your normal english breakfast. The owner caters very well for a wheat and gluten free diet which I have not experienced anywhere else. All in all we highly recommend staying here. Read less

The Cloudesley is in a residential street on the outskirts of St Leonards. This means it is quiet but it's too far to walk to eg Hastings. Fixtures and fittings gorgeous and the manager very friendly but there were a few oversights: my girlfriend had explicitly asked for a male masseur for me and I got a woman; we weren't given our keys on arrival and had to ring the doorbell to get them; we requested breakfast on the patio and the staff seemed surprised when we arrived there in the morning.

Likes:
Beautiful furnishings, lovely bed, slept very well, friendly manager

Dislikes:
Slightly sketchy service. I think the manager needs a notebook to jot down guest requests, or at least to start playing 'improve your memory' games

Response from The Cloudesley:
I did forget you mentioning you prefered not to have breakfast in your room. Sorry about that. On the phone your girlfriend said she didn't want a male therapist and you didn't seem bothered that Jan might be your therapist. Jan also mentioned you've only ever had one other treatment. I think you might find it quite hard to find someone even in London with her skills and qualifications, and you both seemed so happy. You appeared to rave about the place when leaving.

Very important update for potential guests: - please call the hotel if there is no answer at the door as I, or my staff, may be in the garden or elsewhere, where the doorbell cannot be heard.

What a wow place to stay, a normal outside hides a gorgous place inside. Very modern yet you felt comfortable and at ease. Bed one of he best we had ever slept in. Everything was of high quality and chosen with much thought. Our host bent over backwards to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We both had a superb massage, would highly recommend. The breakfast, all organic local produce was delicious,we even had freshly picked strawberries.Would definately go back for another visit.

The accomodation is fascinating and not your usual guest house. Many unusual artifacts make this something out of the ordinary, and the owner is passionate about continuing to present first class accomodation and environment. The bedrooms are luxurious and have everything you would need. His plans for the future are mind-boggling!

"A relaxing stay!"

This gorgeous guest house is decorated to the highest standards. Our room was large with a lush 4 poster bed. The location is out of the craziness of the old town and on a quiet residential street. We enjoyed leafing through the many interesting books, looking at the art and photographs and just chilling out on the gorgeous bed! Our host made every effort to ensure we were comfortable including offering us our choice of toiletries and offering to make us anything we liked for breakfast.

Likes:
The service was excellent, very personal and the host made every effort to ensure our needs were met. The hotel was spotlessly clean and brand new.

We thoroughly recommend a visit to this individual and calming establishment – not a typical B&B, but better for that, so go with an open mind and you will not be disappointed. Shahriar was a superb host - welcoming, generous, and interesting. Our room was splendid, the bed/ linen of the highest quality and comfort. Breakfast was delicious. Not a lot more to ask for. Go soon and a free glass of the best champagne may still be available to welcome you.

Response from The Cloudesley:

It was a pleasure to have you here as my guests and I hope all my guests will be like you. The champagne, however, is sadly unsustainable! There are not that many bottles left and I will only open one if four people are willing to drink it, otherwise it's a terrible waste of good champagne. I hope you will visit again.

Its a new establishment and run by an enthusiastic and passionate owner with plans to make the place stand out from the rest.
The room we had (with the 4 post bed) was beautiful, and the bed was amazing, best nights sleep I've ever had. The room had breakfast tables and chairs. This was such a relaxing start to the day. The breakfasts were stunning; all local and organic produce. the orange juice was just exceptional.
We had aromatherapy sessions too. The place was just...Tranquil. Read less

Likes:
The atmosphere is so relaxed. There are no televisions anywhere so the place is peaceful. The hosts are so accommodating, helpful and approachable.

Dislikes:
There was no aspect we really disliked. Parking could have potentially been an issue, but wasn't. Not sure it ever will be as it is in a residential area and not likely to be affected by the season.

Response from The Cloudesley:
In terms of facilities, I can see not having TV is going to be an issue with quite a few guests, so I may well need to rethink this but it would change the dynamics of the place as a destination for relaxation and holistic therapies. I am listening to guests.
Regarding the location - I must be honest and say, it's more 'Far from the madding crowd' than the buzz of the Old Town, being in a quiet residential street but that may appeal to some. Once more established, dinner will be offered.
